Space Elevator in Seven Years?

Keith Curtis writes an interesting blog post on how to create a space elevator in 7 years. As a kid in the 1960s, I was motivated by the Apollo landings to become interested in space exploration. By the time I was graduating college in 1986, I looked seriously at the aerospace industry as a place for a career. Once I looked into it seriously, I became incredibly disheartened. The magic and joy of NASA’s early days had been completely displaced by the dysfunctional rhythms of a self-sustaining government bureacracy. Keith’s idea could be the ticket that rekindles the magic and joy of space exploration once again and opens the frontier to the ordinary person, not just hand-picked NASA test pilots that spend 20 years waiting for a single mission.
